What are you?

Writers write :: Pick a first line and write for 10 minutes :: Don't stop. Don't edit. Don't judge. :: Write.

About

Hi.  I'm Lisa.  This is a blog idea I've had for a while.

There's a favorite exercise among writers where you write for ten minutes straight without stopping.  The idea is to free up your creativity and turn off your inner critic.

My favorite variation is when someone else provides a first line, letting it trigger your stream of consciousness and write for ten minutes without stopping or pausing or judging what you write.

So (I figured) why not start a blog where I give writers a "first line" each day?  Use it as inspiration or just a kick in the butt to ensure you write for at least 10 minutes?

That was the idea.  Now I needed a name.  I had tons of names jotted down, but it turns out that most of them were unavailable in both Blogger and as a gmail address.  "Quicksies" was always my first choice (a contraction of "quick stories") because of its close proximity to the word "quickies."  As fate would have it, that's the only one of my proposed names that was available!

So here you go.  I'll provide a First Line every day.  You simply set a timer, and write nonstop for ten minutes using that first line as a starting point.

I'll also blog about writing tips, writing sites, and anything that could trigger your creativity.  Eventually, I want to expand the site to include your submissions, so we can share our Quicksies.

Spread the word.  Write a few of your own.  It takes just 10 minutes a day!!

Love,
Lisa

Lisa Gardner is an actor and former teacher of high school English.  She's been on stage in New York and London, done re-enactments on The History Channel, and even appeared on theonion.com.  She is not the same Lisa Gardner who writes murder mystery novels.  That Lisa uses a pen name!  This Lisa is a real Gardner.  This Lisa also plays the ukulele (which, most likely, that other Lisa does not).
